Umberto Scaglia: Creative Director & Automotive UX Designer

Umberto Scaglia is one of those BigRock alumni who perfectly embodies the spirit of the school: curious, multidisciplinary, always on the move.

After his studies in Digital Graphic, 3D Modeling and UX/UI Design between IAAD and BigRock, he started an international path that led him to collaborate with entities such as Intesa Sanpaolo, UEFA/FIFA, IAAF and many others, moving from concept design to storytelling, from Art Direction to digital interface prototyping and design for User Experience.

Today he serves as Senior Product Designer for Volkswagen Group, where he leads teams that not only design specific vehicle car-testing and cyber-security tools, but also design the user interface of the group's vehicle infotainment systems. It's not just about designing the visual dimension but about building consistent, intuitive and engaging in-vehicle experiences in one of the most challenging and dynamic industries: automotive.

With a practical and passionate approach, Umberto has always made the contamination of digital and physical his strong point. His ability to move between different stages of the creative process makes him a true polymath of contemporary design.

A competitive sportsman and tireless challenge seeker, Umberto joins the BigRock faculty in BigRock's UX AI Design Master's program, where he oversaw two key modules:

  • User Interface Design for Automotive, dedicated to the design of vehicle interfaces, with a technical and creative look at the in-vehicle user experience;
  • Design Management & Operation, a module that explores what it really means to work on a design team, including roadmaps, sprints, reviews, and collaboration with developers, engineers, product managers, and stakeholders.

Its goal? To impart to students not only practical skills, but a vision of design as a tool for imagining, connecting and realizing high-impact ideas.
