EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM
The Master's program in Sound Production is offered in collaboration with HEX ARCHIVE: a professional sound design studio that has been affiliated with BigRock for many years.
Thanks to their advice and teaching, the course syllabus perfectly reflects what is most in demand in today's industry, with an eye toward the future.
Classes are held Monday through Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
The morning hours will be spent in class, guided by the instructor, discovering day by day the production techniques or theory behind the creation of 3D content.
The afternoon, on the other hand, will be entirely at your disposal to practice or attend one of the preparatory workshops on offer.
Classes end at 6:00 PM, but you can stay in the classroom until 10:00 PM if you need more time to practice.
Each week is dedicated entirely to a single subject, so that the information is fully absorbed and you have time to take in and consolidate the concepts you have learned. In addition, at the end of each module, there will be an individual or group challenge to consolidate what has been learned in the previous weeks.
The final weeks of the course involve a broader phase in which, under the supervision of your teachers, you will have the opportunity to carry out a professional project to include in your portfolio.
2 weeks
introduction
Introduction to all topics related to audio production that will serve as a basis for all other modules, including the main software used, such as Reaper, Ableton Live, Izotope RX, and sound synthesis.
All the basic concepts for linear sound editing will also be introduced.
2 weeks
MUSICAL theory
All the foundational concepts of traditional and modern harmony, orchestra management and any musical ensemble will be covered.
1 Week
Acoustics and sound engineering
In this module, students will acquire the theoretical and practical skills to be able to manage and plan any recording session, and acquire material for use in any music or sound design project.
3 Weeks
Film Games & Adv
Here we will analyze film music and video game music in detail, deconstructing the workings and purposes of both with numerous exercises. We will also expand the topics of the second module with other composition techniques typical of these two ecosystems.
We will then explore specific writing and mindset for commercial applications such as advertising, sound branding, sound logos, and marketing campaigns. We will also use these topics as an opportunity to talk about how to manage client relationships and effectively nurture your freelance work.
3 Weeks
sound design
This will be the module in which we will cover everything related to sound design and foley for linear and nonlinear media. Students will understand the work behind all major types of sound effects, such as: creatures, weapons (white and fire), vehicles, environments, and more. Students also, strengthened by the skills derived from the previous modules will be able to independently generate sound sources and manage the entire process from A to Z, expanding their sound synthesis and recording skills.
1 Week
audio post
in this module, through intensive study of Izotope RX and advanced editing, students will become proficient in sound restoration and audio post-production for film. They will learn how to professionally clean captured recordings, dialogue management, and many other essential post concepts.
1 Week
mix & mastering
As the last step in the production chain, students will learn how to structure professional sessions for the mixing and mastering process, finalizing the material created for any distribution and platform, whether it be record or film, for physical media (such as CD, cassette or vinyl) or for the Web.
2 weeks
audio integration
The last module is the one dedicated to in-engine audio integration for the videogames environment. We will implement our sound effects directly into the Unreal Engine game engine, leveraging Wwise and Fmod middleware, making them fully functional and interactive in the game environment.
1 Week
class x
Students will gain real work experience with a real client belonging to the teachers' network. Drawing on the experience they have gained, they will manage everything independently under the supervision of their teachers and, at the end, will be able to add everything to their portfolio, facilitating their imminent entry into the world of work.
5 Weeks
thesis
In this final part of the Master's program, students will choose a field of application (video game, film, or commercial) and work on producing an entire portfolio that is truly competitive for today's world of work, taking advantage of the guidance and insights of the teachers, specific to each field of specialization.
The focus is to give structure to each student's aptitudes and passions to make him or her more than ready to face the road ahead upon completion of the course, with all the necessary resources at hand.
