Planning and new tools to prepare you for the world of work

Welcome, blender

To revamp the course, we started from scratch: the new Master's Degree in Videogames bases its 3D pipeline on Blender.

Blender is open-source software that is free and supported by a rapidly growing global community. It is playing an increasingly important role in the industry, proving that you don't always need the most prestigious tools to create great stories.

Challenges accepted

The lessons of the Master's Degree in Videogames alternate between explanation and practice, exploring a different subject each week. At the end of each module, you will face a final challenge by creating a personal or group project. This is an opportunity to apply the skills you have acquired in practice and start building your final portfolio.

AI powered

After more than five years of experimentation, BigRock is pursuing a vision in which Artificial Intelligence is increasingly integrated into production pipelines at every level. From small agencies to large productions, knowing how to use this "new pencil" consciously is a key skill for tackling tomorrow's world of work.

Portfolio-Oriented

The Master's in Videogames program has been completely revised to allow you to carry out various projects step by step, just like in a real professional studio. You will then be taught how to build and present your final portfolio, with all the personal and group work you have done during the course.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES

Possessing critical/artistic skills and knowledge of production processes through various software programs: this is what tomorrow's job market will demand.
The Master's Degree in Videogames therefore aims to train future digital artists with a cross-disciplinary approach, creating a comprehensive educational program that can be applied not only to the world of videogames.

During the master's course, you will acquire the skills necessary to enter the world of work and pursue professions such as:

Game Designer

Gameplay Programmer

Technical Artist

Level Designer

Game Producer

Narrative Designer

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM

The teaching program is divided into modules lasting several weeks, each with the aim of preparing you for the various steps involved in creating a video game and helping you to gradually acquire greater and greater autonomy in production.

Classes are held Monday through Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The morning hours will be spent in class, guided by the instructor, discovering day by day the production techniques or artistic theory behind the creation of 3D content.

The afternoon, on the other hand, will be entirely at your disposal to practice or attend one of the preparatory workshops on offer.

Classes end at 6:00 PM, but you can stay in the classroom until 10:00 PM if you need more time to practice.

Each week is dedicated entirely to a single subject, so that the information is fully absorbed and you have time to take in and consolidate the concepts you have learned. In addition, at the end of each module, there will be an individual or group challenge to consolidate what has been learned in the previous weeks.

The final weeks of the course involve a more extensive project phase in which, together with your classmates and under the supervision of your teachers, you will have the opportunity to create a complete video game, just like in a normal production.

4 Weeks

Imaging

The most theoretical module of the course, but fundamental for building artistic awareness and image post-production skills that will be useful in all subsequent steps of the course.

  • Color theory and photography
  • Photo post-production in Photoshop
  • Introduction to Generative AI

5 Weeks

game introduction

An introductory course to video game development that guides students from the basics of Unity to advanced programming in C#, integrating the use of Artificial Intelligence to optimize coding.

  • Unity Introduction
  • Coding in CSharp
  • Coding with AI

5 Weeks

3D intro

A module dedicated to the creation of digital worlds, ranging from the basics of Unreal Engine and Blender to essential texturing and rigging techniques for characters and environments.

  • Unreal Intro
  • Environment
  • Blender Introduction
  • Texture
  • Rig

7 Weeks

UNREAL ADVANCED

A technical deep dive focused on the potential of Unreal Engine, from advanced level design to FX creation, integrating animation tools such as MoCap and Mixamo with the latest AI-based innovations.

  • Animation Tools
  • FX
  • Level Design
  • AI tools in Unreal

2 weeks

unity 3D

Explore advanced 3D development techniques within the Unity ecosystem, delving into asset management, lighting, and environment optimization to create engaging interactive experiences.

4 Weeks

MAJOR

A four-week intensive workshop focused on teamwork: from drafting a professional Game Design Document (GDD) to the practical creation of a playable prototype in small groups.

2 weeks

Class x

Always one of the fixed points in the Master's program, Class X is a challenge that students face by responding to a brief from an external client. It is a race against time to produce a usable game while respecting timelines, deadlines, constraints, and restrictions. It is a fundamental moment for artistic and personal growth, optimizing production times and learning to work as a team.

5 Weeks

thesis

You will have five weeks—one for pre-production and four for production—to create an advanced game together with the whole class. The aim of the thesis is to get you used to working in a group with a common goal, putting individualism aside and learning to solve problems together.

4 Weeks

PORTFOLIO

Finally, you will have the last 4 weeks of the course to perfect or carry out personal projects to include in your first real portfolio, under the supervision of BigRock teachers and external mentors.

THESIS

You will have five weeks—one for pre-production and four for production—to create an advanced game together with the whole class. The aim of the thesis is to get you used to working in a group with a common goal, putting individualism aside and learning to solve problems together.

EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCES

Throughout the Master's program you will face, in conjunction with the lectures, workshops preparatory to your work in 3D. These are all essential experiences to sharpen your perception of reality, often using the same tools you will find in the software.

photography

Learn live what it means to light and photograph a character or scene to achieve the desired emotional effect.

models

Refine your perception of a character's volumes and proportions by sculpting it directly on plasticine with your own hands.

3D printing

Learn how to optimize your models and 3D sculptures for printing and create your first prototypes at school with printers provided by PRUSA.

scripting

A story may or may not be good. Much depends on how you tell it. Learn how to put down ideas and write your own scripts.

miniature painting

Learn to paint lights and reflections on characters and props consciously by experimenting first on collectible miniatures.

acting

Become familiar with your body, kinetic chains and emotional expressions. Animating a character realistically will surely be easier later.

THESES

The thesis is a fundamental part of the Master's program in Videogames: a final project that involves students in the creation of a complete, professional videogame. From game design to the last line of code, students will tackle a real-life production simulation.

During the thesis, you are racing against time: just a few weeks and a professional project to complete, just like in a real studio. There is no time for grandstanding or friction; everyone must work together to complete the project.

If the game is deemed valid and complete, it will then be uploaded to Steam or indie platforms to be played for free worldwide.

EVERY DAY IN BIGROCK IS A GOOD STORY

Attending BigRock is not just about taking a course. The months you spend within these walls will be first and foremost a true life experience, where every day will count and turn into an indelible memory.

You won't have classmates: you'll have people who share your passions and, why not, even a bit of the same story as you. They will be the essential wingman with whom you write a new chapter in your life and from whom you will learn the value of teamwork.

You will meet characters and discover realities and jobs you didn't even think could exist, which will inspire you to choose your own path.

And before you know it, whole months of the course will go by as fast as a butterfly's beat.

One piece of advice? Enjoy every single second!
