It is indeed true that good stories are born from equally good stories, such as this one.
A story that comes to life from the "bedtime stories" that a father makes up every night to put his daughter to sleep.
Among the many bedtime stories, one in particular turned into a book during the Covid period: that of Scila and the Diamond Dragon.
The story of a little girl and a special dragon that not everyone is able to see...
Scila, every morning, wakes up to go to school, makes breakfast for her little brother, and before he wakes up, goes walking along the forest near her home.
There she picks what she finds: strawberries, chestnuts, raspberries. But, at the end of that forest, there is a stream.
During her walks, one day she starts looking into the water and she seems to see something shining among the stones.
She does not understand what animal it is but, at the same time, she does not feel any fear.
This wiggly animal moves through the water with rhombuses on its back that reflect all the colors of the rainbow.
That morning, however, the animal goes up the creek and wanders away.
So Scila comes home and immediately goes to tell her mom everything, but she can't figure out what it is.
The day passes and Scila returns to the creek again.
He hears voices, but does not immediately understand where they are coming from. The magical creature sticks its head out of the water. Scila is speechless: she had never met a dragon before.
Scila tells the Diamond Dragon that, until that moment, she had never believed in their existence.
The Diamond Dragon replies that only some people can see him and suggests that she think about the things that make her happy: the love of her parents, the joy she feels playing with her friends...
At that moment, Mother calls Scila home.
The next day, Scila returns to the Dragon. She meets her dragon friends and spends the day with them.
Before saying goodbye to the Diamond Dragon, Scila asks him if she can bring one of her friends the next day.
The Diamond Dragon tells her to carefully choose the friend to bring.
The next day, after school, Scila brings Simone, a shy child of few words and always smiling.
Simone silently follows Scila through the woods. They arrive at the river, but see no one...
Just as Scila is about to give up hope, she notices that her friend is stroking the head of the Diamond Dragon.
The Diamond Dragon says to Scila:
"You were right, Scila. It is the right one.
Not everyone is capable of believing what cannot be seen. Only some are willing to do so."
And it is from this story that Master 39's thesis was born.
