Painting cinema: BigRock students meet the art of Renato Casaro

At the beginning of the educational journey of BigRock edition number 40, we had the honor of immersing ourselves in the visual universe of Renato Casaro, cinema's greatest living poster artist. An artist who has turned posters into true works of art, collaborating with directors of the caliber of Sergio Leone, Bernardo Bertolucci and Francis Ford Coppola.

Students in the master's programs in Concept Art e UX AI Design from BigRock, guided by Visual Design faculty, embarked on a journey through the pictorial techniques and visual communication that made Casaro's works famous. It was not just a matter of admiring his art, but of understanding the path of this artist and studying the constructive wisdom of his masterpieces: portraiture, use of colors, scene composition but also graphic layout, typography were analyzed and reworked, allowing the students to reinterpret one of their choice among his iconic posters.

This exercise was of fundamental value: it taught how to present and enhance an artistic work by applying the rules of editorial graphic design. Before diving into digital design, it is essential to understand the basics of visual communication.

Through the discovery of Casaro's works, students learned the importance of each graphic element, how an image can tell a story and arouse emotions. They experienced firsthand how visual composition can influence the perception of the whole message.

In an age dominated by digital, rediscovering Casaro's pictorial art offered a unique perspective, a bridge between tradition and innovation. It was an experience that enriched our students' cultural and professional backgrounds, preparing them to become the visual communicators of the future.

To learn more about Renato Casaro's art, you can see them at the Salce Collection and the permanent room dedicated to him on the third floor of the San Gaetano building, the heart of the Salce Collection National Museum.
