Prop Design

The prop design week in the Master's program in Concept Art is perhaps the creative peak of the course.

A method of combining technique and incredible imagination in creating a new, futuristic "prop" with special capabilities and heavy value on the narrative of the film or video game.

It always starts with the story. You have to describe its features and provenance, context, why the object is being used.

After the story ... reference!
Reference, reference, reference, reference, reference.....

Once you understand the form, you open a beautiful piece of software called Alchemy. Which basically does random things.
... seriously! It is made to create random shapes, which help the artist find a winning silhouette for the object.

Once the silhouette is decided, the design is refined, adding more and more detail and studying the volumes.

When the concept is complete, its various planes of view are drawn.

In last.... colors! What combinations, what materials. Color does 70% of the work.
