MASTER IN SOUND PRODUCTION

OVERVIEW

The Master in Sound Production is an intensive six-month program designed to train new professionals in sound production for film, TV series and video games. Through exercises, challenges and group rehearsals, the ultimate goal of the course is to make students autonomous in producing professional-level, industry-ready content.

This is a highly immersive course that combines lectures, exercises and practical challenges to acquire general skills with a flair for teamwork.

You will face a strongly forward-looking educational path by integrating specific artificial intelligence tools into your workflow.

Through engaging propaedeutic experiences then, you will hone your technical skills and artistic flair.

You will follow projects from start to finish developing the ability to work in a team and you will have the opportunity to challenge yourself with briefs and requests from real clients and companies.

The Master's degree in Sound Production covers the theory and practice of sound design and soundtrack, with applications in various fields such as film, television, theater and video game production.

YOUR POST

At BigRock, every detail is chosen and taken care of for the student's well-being, so that he or she can focus only on the path toward his or her goals-we take care of the rest!

Computer

You will be working on an iMac with an Apple Silicon processor, which can provide the performance you need to manage and burn your compositions.

Equipment

You will have an ARTURIA Keylab Essential midi keyboard and a pair of AKG headphones. All you have to do is bring your ideas and turn them into music.

Desks

The tables you'll be working on are custom-designed and made of solid oak, ensuring your comfort and visual tranquility.

Chair

You will sit in a Herman Miller ergonomic chair. There are no more comfortable seats on the market. Not content with that, we've also decided to add one class a week of stretching with a personal trainer.

COURSE PROGRAM

The Master's course in Sound Production is conducted in collaboration with HEX ARCHIVE: a professional sound design studio with which BigRock has collaborated for years.

INTRODUCTION

Introduction to all topics related to audio production that will serve as the basis for all other modules, including the main software used, such as Reaper, Ableton Live, Izotope RX, and sound synthesis.

All the basics of linear sound editing will also be introduced.

MUSIC THEORY, ARRANGEMENT AND ORCHESTRATION

All the foundational concepts of traditional and modern harmony, orchestra management and any musical ensemble will be covered.

RECORDING TECHNIQUES, ACOUSTICS AND SOUND ENGINEERING

In this module, students will acquire the theoretical and practical skills to be able to manage and plan any recording session, and acquire material for use in any music or sound design project.

FILM, GAME & COMMERCIAL MUSIC

Here we will analyze film music and video game music in detail, deconstructing the workings and purposes of both with numerous exercises. We will also expand the topics of the second module with other composition techniques typical of these two ecosystems.

We will then delve into specfic writing and mindset for commercial applications such as: advertisement, sound branding, sound logo and marketing campaigns. We will also use these topics as an opportunity to talk about how to manage the client relationship and effectively nurture one's work as a freelancer.

SOUND DESIGN

This will be the module in which we will cover everything related to sound design and foley for linear and nonlinear media. Students will understand the work behind all major types of sound effects, such as: creatures, weapons (white and fire), vehicles, environments, and more. Students also, strengthened by the skills derived from the previous modules will be able to independently generate sound sources and manage the entire process from A to Z, expanding their sound synthesis and recording skills.

AUDIO POST

in this module, through intensive study of Izotope RX and advanced editing, students will become proficient in sound restoration and audio post-production for film. They will learn how to professionally clean captured recordings, dialogue management, and many other essential post concepts.

MIX & MASTERING

As the last step in the production chain, students will learn how to structure professional sessions for the mixing and mastering process, finalizing the material created for any distribution and platform, whether it be record or film, for physical media (such as CD, cassette or vinyl) or for the Web.

AUDIO INTEGRATION

The last module is the one dedicated to in-engine audio integration for the videogames environment. We will implement our sound effects directly into the Unreal Engine game engine, leveraging Wwise and Fmod middleware, making them fully functional and interactive in the game environment.

CLASS X

Students will have an actual work experience with a real client belonging to the teachers' network. Empowered by their experience, they will manage everything in complete autonomy under the supervision of the teachers, and in the end they will be able to put everything into a portfolio, facilitating their imminent entry into the world of work.

FINAL THESIS.

In this final part of the Master's program, students will choose a field of application (video game, film, or commercial) and work on producing an entire portfolio that is truly competitive for today's world of work, taking advantage of the guidance and insights of the teachers, specific to each field of specialization.

The focus is to give structure to each student's aptitudes and passions to make him or her more than ready to face the road ahead upon completion of the course, with all the necessary resources at hand.
